Points of contact at GIUB
At GIUB there is a contact person for every question and concern. On this page you will find a list of the most frequently used contact options.
Studies
- Student Advisory Service: The Student Advisory Service can help you with general questions about your studies or course. They can also direct you to the right person if necessary. You can contact the Student Advisory Service by email, telephone or in person during office hours.
- Examination Office: The Examination Office is responsible for all examinations during your course and for exam registrations via BASIS. This office also accepts medical certificates in the event of illness, inquiries to the examination boards and submissions of final theses. If you have any questions about these matters, please contact the Examination Office as soon as possible by email, telephone or in person during opening hours using your student ID number.
- GIUB Library: The GIUB has one of the largest department libraries in Germany. If you have any questions about literature research or requests to the archive, please contact the library team by e-mail, telephone or in person at the library supervisor. The library also accepts suggestions for acquisitions via a contact form and offers research advice for members of GIUB.
- Equipment Pool: The equipment pool has a large collection of field and measuring equipment for scientific work in both physical and human geography. The equipment can be borrowed by students and staff of GIUB. The inventory list as well as contact and borrowing options can be found on the website of the equipment pool.
Organizational matters
- Mail Room: The mail room is where mail arrives at the department. It is also where the lecturers’ mailboxes are located (e.g., for submitting term papers). Room requests can also be submitted to the mail room.
- General Management: The general management of GIUB includes the managing director of the institute (this is always a professor) and Dr Sonja Hock as general manager. On the management website you will find various contact persons for organizational matters.
Awareness
- Liaison Lecturers: The two liaison lecturers at GIUB are elected by the Student Council and are made up of one male and one female person. Normally, one liaison lecturer is a member of academic staff and the other is a professor. In cases of (sexualized) violence or other problems, you can contact one or both liaison lecturers at any time – but if you are not sure, you can also contact the Student Council first. Your inquiries will of course be treated confidentially.
- Protection Against Violence: The Protection Against Violence working group is made up of committed people from various status groups at GIUB. The Student Council is also represented there. The working group has compiled a list of all university support services on its website.
