On this page you will find a selection of questions that we are regularly asked. If your question is not answered here, just come by or contact us.

1. What is the student council and what do they do?
First and foremost, we are your representatives at the Institute of Geography. But beyond that we have many different activities: From organizing the Geoparty to advising in questions of studies and participation in the commissions of the GIUB. If you want to learn more about our work, visit this page.

2. Where can I find you?
Our student council room is located in the basement of the Institute of Geography, to the right of the staircase (Room 003). During the semester the student council room is occupied from Monday thru Thursday between 12  and 1 p.m., during the semester break always on Tuesdays between 11 and 1 p.m.

3. Can I just join in with you?
Yes, you can! No matter if first or seventeenth semester, if major or teaching profession, all geographers are welcome and can contribute with their interests and skills.

4. May I use the university and institute logo for the cover page of my paper?
Yes, the relevant guidelines explicitly allow this; it is even welcomed when students put the university logo on their homework to promote identification with it.

5. What time does the mailbox room open?
The P.O. Box Room, in which the lecturers’ P.O. boxes are located, is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the semester as well as during the lecture-free period. There you will also be helped with all organisational problems.

6. Liaison Professors? Lecturer of confidence? Who is that and what do they do?
The student council has selected two persons from the ranks of the lecturers who enjoy the special trust of the student council and all students. They will help you with serious personal and study-related problems. These are not problems of study organisation, but rather, for example, doubts about the choice of study, problems with lecturers or serious exam nerves. Currently, Prof. Dr. Evers and Prof. Dr. Greve are our trusted lecturers. However, we recommend that you come to us with your problems first, we will refer you to both if we cannot help you.

7. Are there required attendances at the Institute of Geography?
We have special regulations concerning the obligation to attend. We have put together a reader for you, which you can find here.
